Pittsburgh Employees Judge Area Science Fair
Gannett Fleming participated in the Scitech Spectacular Pittsburgh Regional Science Fair on March 31 at Heinz Field as a corporate sponsor. Students in grades 6-12 who were winners at their local school science fair competed at this regional fair for prizes that included cash awards and scholarships. Amanda Skocik and Andrew Deao represented Gannett Fleming at this exciting event. They judged civil engineering-related science projects and presented two students with $50 awards. Sixth-grader Jessica McDade did a fabulous project on soil drainage entitled “Permeable Building Soils.”

Our second winner was Colston Cooper, an eighth-grader whose impressive project, “Exciting Bridges,” compared the resonance of a suspension and an arch bridge deck.
Andrew and Amanda chose these winners based on their organization (following the scientific method), neatness, quality of presentation, and, most importantly, competency.
