(Baltimore, Md.) Engineering News-Record (ENR) named Maryland’s InterCounty Connector (ICC) Contract B as its 2012 Best Transportation Project in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Gannett Fleming was part of the design-build team of MD200 Constructors, a joint venture of Kiewit Southern Company, G.A. & F.C. Wagman, and Corman Construction. Gannett Fleming provided highway, bridge, traffic, and geotechnical engineering services in conjunction with the Parsons Transportation Group design team.
The ICC is more than 23 miles long and links I-270 in Montgomery County, Md., with I-95 in Prince George’s County, Md. The project was separated into four different contracts, with Contract B featuring a new seven-mile-long tolled roadway for six lanes of traffic, five dual multi-span mainline bridges, four two-span overhead bridges, one overhead single-point urban interchange structure, and roadway interchanges at MD 182 and MD 650. Contract B opened to the traveling public in December 2011.
The $560 million project was featured in ENR’s Dec. 10, 2012, edition. Entries were judged on teamwork and overcoming challenges; safety, innovation, and contribution; construction quality and craftsmanship; and function and aesthetic quality.
