May 17, 2012

Lennie R. Whitcomb, M.Ed.-T&D(Harrisburg, Pa.) Lennie R. Whitcomb, M.Ed.-T&D, Gannett Fleming’s corporate learning and development manager, has been appointed to the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s (ISI) Accreditation Committee.

ISI is a nonprofit leadership organization dedicated to developing and administering a sustainability rating system. The American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, and the American Public Works Association are founding members of ISI.

The ISI Accreditation Committee is responsible for establishing criteria and qualifications for the ISI Sustainability Professional (ISI-SP) designation, which is analogous to the LEED® AP designation. The committee will develop testing and procedures, in collaboration with the ISI Education Committee, for professionals to obtain the ISI-SP credential, as well as other levels. These various levels may include certifications for a third-party professional who verifies the criteria of projects submitted for an ISI designation under the ISI Recognition Program.

Based in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., Whitcomb is responsible for implementing Gannett Fleming’s corporate Learning Management System, as well as identifying internal and external programs for employee training and development initiatives. In this role, he designs and develops online eLearning courses, helps to manage the firm’s performance evaluation and review program, and facilitates leadership training programs. He also manages the firm’s adherence to the International Association for Continuing Education and Training criteria.

Whitcomb earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Shippensburg University and a master’s degree in education, training, and development from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of the American Society for Training & Development, the Society of Applied Learning Technology, and is a Leadership Harrisburg Area alumnus.  He is a resident of Harrisburg.

Whitcomb’s leadership role within ISI is an extension of Gannett Fleming’s commitment to support the organization. The firm is a charter member of ISI and has helped to guide the development of the nonprofit’s Envision™ Sustainability Rating System. This recently released infrastructure project rating system provides tools to evaluate how projects meet key sustainability criteria.
