Design-Build Win for Multi-Use Trail Project in Florida

March 9, 2012

(Largo, Fla.) Gannett Fleming’s Largo, Fla., office landed a design-build project win with the Florida Department of Transportation for the multi-use trail along State Road 60, also known as the Courtney Campbell Causeway, which runs across Tampa Bay between Clearwater, Fla., and Tampa, Fla. The new trail will provide a regional connection along the Florida Scenic Highway for non-motorized travel between Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in Florida.

The office is teamed with American Bridge, Hubbard Construction, and Ayers & Associates, for which Gannett Fleming will provide geotechnical engineering services. Together, the team proposed a 30-span bridge on hammerhead piers. Gannett Fleming will execute a subsurface exploration program and the geotechnical design of both the multi-use trail and the bridge. The geotechnical work will cover mechanically stabilized earth walls, new seawalls, and foundation design. The team is expecting to begin work by summer 2012. Gannett Fleming will also provide contractor quality control testing during construction.
