
Valdez Joins Gannett Fleming as Director of National Transit Planning

(Los Angeles, Calif.) Myrna Valdez recently joined Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm, as director of national transit planning. Based in the firm's Los Angeles, Calif., office, she is responsible for strategically shaping Gannett Fleming's approach to transit planning and expanding the Transit Planning Practice.
With more than 35 years of experience, she will identify key initiatives, lead in developing marketing plans and pursuits, direct the hiring of specific capabilities, train and mentor staff, and ensure the consistency of Practice performance throughout the firm.
In support of Gannett Fleming's strategic action to grow its transit activities in the western U.S., Valdez will focus her efforts on supporting the Practice in this region, which is led by Sam Mayman, P.E., vice president and Transit Practice director. In addition, as a result of her extensive experience working on projects sponsored by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), she will share best practices and provide timely information firm-wide on advances in planning and changes in FTA guidance.

A highly experienced project manager, Valdez has directed complex, multimillion dollar transit and multimodal studies, including alternatives analyses and environmental impact studies, for programs nationwide. She effectively coordinates multifaceted project teams, negotiates best solutions, and ensures that all projects adhere to industry standards and regulations.
Active in professional organizations, Valdez is a member of the Women's Transportation Seminar. She holds a bachelor of arts in Latin American studies from the University of New Mexico and a master of science in transportation from Northwestern University. Throughout her career, she has also been an instructor for such courses as the National Transit Institute's public involvement training and the nationwide major investment study training program, which was developed with the FTA. Valdez resides in Los Angeles.
