November 10, 2009

Robert E. Adamski, P.E., BCEE, F.SAME, F.ASCE(Locust Valley, N.Y.) Robert E. Adamski, P.E., BCEE, F.SAME, F.ASCE, was awarded Water For People's 2009 Robert W. Hite Outstanding Leadership Award. The Robert W. Hite Award annually recognizes an individual who models the best in leadership with innovation, creativity, and commitment to the principles of the work of Water For People. Adamski was presented the award on Oct. 13, 2009, at the Water Environment Federation's Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC®) in Orlando, Fla.

Water For People is an organization that helps people in developing countries to improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and health and hygiene education programs. As the 2009 recipient of the Robert W. Hite Award, Adamski inspires others to share in the vision of a world where all people have access to safe water and sanitation facilities.

Adamski serves as vice president of municipal infrastructure programs for Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm. Located in the firm's Locust Valley, N.Y., office, Adamski is responsible for providing consulting assistance to municipal water and wastewater system owners in the areas of facility operations and maintenance and utility management.

"I can think of no better recipient of the Robert W. Hite Award than this year’s awardee, Robert Adamski," said Ned Breslin, chief executive officer of Water For People. “His contributions to Water For People are truly immense. His service and support, not only to us as an organization, but more importantly to people throughout the world, have enabled many to fetch water from clean sources." Adamski commented, "I am honored to receive this award since I knew Bob Hite, prayed with him, and shared his passion for helping others."

Adamski previously served two terms on the Water For People board and has been active in the World Water Corps®. While on the board, he chaired the International Program Committee and served on the Local Relations Committee. Recently, he served on the World Water Corps Management Committee and led a scoping study team to the Dominican Republic. The study's recommendation resulted in Water For People adding the Dominican Republic to its program.

"Bob has also helped us coordinate our activities in the Dominican Republic at a time when, without him, we would not have had the capacity to engage in water and sanitation work in that country," Breslin said. "We are investing in the Dominican Republic because of Bob's leadership and tenacity, and the people of the Dominican Republic are better off for it." In addition to Adamski's work in the Dominican Republic, he has also visited Water For People programs in Guatemala, Malawi, and Nicaragua.

Adamski is a registered professional engineer in New York and New Jersey, a board-certified environmental engineer, and is a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the City College of New York.
