Art on the Streets of Santa Fe
August 28, 2008
(Santa Fe, N.M.) Two sculpture projects have been completed as part of an on going effort to incorporate the work of local artists into the City of Santa Fe public works.
Built from rounded river rocks, the Botulph Road traffic circle sculpture is located at the intersection of Botulph, Arroyo Chamiso, and Miguel Chavez roads. Additionally, four structures have been mounted in median islands for the Osage Avenue intersections with Kiva and Hopi roads, and in the center of a roundabout at Lujan and Rosina streets.
The sculpture concepts were developed by Juan and Patricia Navarrete, a Taos, N.M. team of artists, in collaboration with the Casa Alegre neighborhood, and with support from the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission.
The engineering design was performed by Luis Alba, P.E., of Gannett Fleming West, Inc., a New Mexico-based engineering corporation specializing in planning, design, and construction management. Santa Fe-based landscape contractors, Clemens & Associates, constructed the sculptures.
