New York Construction Magazine Recognizes
Gannett Fleming Project
May 16, 2008
(New York, N.Y.) New York Construction magazine selected the Gilboa Dam Interim Fast Track Stability Improvements Project as project of the year in its Best of 2007 Public Works Category. The project was a joint venture between Gannett Fleming, and New York City-based Hazen & Sawyer.
Built in 1927, the Gilboa Dam is located in New York's Catskills Mountains. The reservoir provides approximately one-third of the water used by New York City. Dam inspections in 2005 revealed stability weaknesses, putting the nearby population, as well as numerous public and private facilities, at risk.
The Gannett Fleming and Hazen & Sawyer joint venture led the interim repair project, which was implemented on an emergency, fast-track schedule to improve stability by the end of 2006 prior to the full reconstruction of the dam. The team led the design of the $25 million rehabilitation within a three-month span, and construction was completed in an eight-month time period.
