Croton-Harmon Replacement Wins ACEC/NY Award

May 21, 2008

The Croton-Harmon Shop(New York, N.Y.) The Croton-Harmon Shop Replacement Project received a Gold Award in the Transportation Category of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s (ACEC/NY's) 2008 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition.

Under the direction of MTA Metro-North Railroad, Gannett Fleming was the lead designer on Phase II of the project, which included $40 million in design-build improvements to the Croton-Harmon rail yard, in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. This phase consisted of the design and construction of four new facilities and clearing a portion of the site for major shop facilities to be constructed in future phases.

Sustainable design elements were used in the Phase II improvements, such as expansive skylights, translucent wall panels, and floor-to-ceiling windows to help eliminate dependency on artificial lighting and lower energy costs. By incorporating sustainable design elements, future operating costs will be reduced.
