
Gannett Fleming Staff Elected to ASCE Pittsburgh Section Positions

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) Terry L. Downs, P.G., Jason J. McBride, P.E., and Andrew L. Deao, E.I.T., in Gannett Fleming’s Pittsburgh, Pa., office, have been elected to leadership positions within the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pittsburgh Section. These individuals join Gannett Fleming’s Jonathan D. McHugh, P.E., who will be completing his final year as a director of the Section.
Downs, who has been named vice president of the ASCE Pittsburgh Section, previously served as a director and assistant vice president, as well as chairman of the Geo-Institute’s Pittsburgh Chapter. His goals as vice president include furthering the Pittsburgh Section’s educational, technical, and business service offerings. He has been very active in community and educational outreach during his 13 years with ASCE.
With 23 years of experience, Downs serves as Gannett Fleming’s Pittsburgh Geotechnical Services Group manager and is responsible for projects involving civil disciplines with geotechnical and managerial requirements of varying scope and complexity.
Having been involved with the ASCE Pittsburgh Section for the past two years, McBride was named as a new director. In this role, he will concentrate his efforts on important water and wastewater infrastructure issues by bringing them to the industry forefront. Prior to this appointment, McBride served as chairman of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute’s Pittsburgh Chapter. In 2008, he led this organization to receive the prestigious national Section & Branch Council Outstanding Technical Group/Institute Chapter Award.
With eight years of experience, McBride is an assistant project manager in Gannett Fleming’s Municipal Services Group. He is responsible for planning, design, and construction phase services for water and wastewater projects. He has extensive experience in sewer system infrastructure assessment and rehabilitation, as well as combined sewer overflow/sanitary sewer overflow analysis and mitigation.
Deao was also appointed as a new director of the Section and has been involved with the organization for the past three years. One of his key areas of focus will be to strengthen Pittsburgh’s civil engineering industry by working with local students. Prior to his appointment
as a director, he completed a term as president of the Younger Member Forum within the ASCE Pittsburgh Section. In this role, he demonstrated strong leadership in organizing significant events with industry and political leaders within the region. He also significantly grew the size of this organization.
Deao is a geotechnical designer in Gannett Fleming’s Geotechnical Services Group and brings five years of experience to this position. He has served as the designer for a variety of diverse projects, including bridges, roadways, airports, and buildings.
