(Philadelphia, Pa.) Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm, is pleased to cosponsor Street Smart: Streetcars and Cities in the 21st Century. This series of streetcar workshops will be conducted by Reconnecting America in conjunction with the American Public Transportation Association, the Community Streetcar Coalition, and the Seaside Institute.
The first workshop is scheduled for Portland, Ore., on July 27, with other workshops to be held in Charlotte, N.C., and Denver, Colo. Complete workshop and registration information is available online at www.theseasideinstitute.org.
At each workshop, transit agencies, public officials, and national streetcar experts will discuss their recent experiences in streetcar initiatives and the lessons learned from projects throughout the country, as well as share funding and political strategies for system development.
The streetcar has reemerged as a cost-effective tool to provide local community-level transportation, while also promoting economic development. Gannett Fleming has been long associated with streetcar initiatives, including recent projects in New Orleans, La; Tacoma, Wash.; Philadelphia, Pa.; and Miami, Fla.
