(Newport News, Va.) John A. Mason, P.E., has joined Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm. Mason serves as the Transportation Engineering Section manager in the firm’s Newport News, Va., office.
Bringing more than 30 years of engineering management and design experience to Gannett Fleming, Mason is responsible for directing the Roadway, Traffic, and Structural Design Sections in Newport News. He oversees the administration of projects from inception to completion, manages budgets and schedules, and coordinates the efforts of various project disciplines.
Mason has an extensive background in transportation projects, with a focus on upgrading highway infrastructure. His urban projects include Independence Boulevard from Holland Road to Haygood Road in Virginia Beach, Va., and other principal arterials throughout Hampton Roads, Va. Some of Mason’s other notable projects are the Virginia Inland Port at Front Royal, Va., for the Virginia Port Authority and a multi-purpose range complex at Fort Pickett for the Virginia Army National Guard.
A registered professional engineer in Virginia and North Carolina, Mason holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Virginia and a bachelor of science in geology from Old Dominion University. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society of Highway Engineers, and the Virginia Section Institute of Transportation Engineers. Mason also serves on the Civil and Environmental Engineering Visiting Council at Old Dominion University.
