(Phoenix, Ariz.) John Derr, P.E., was appointed a regional transportation director with Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm. Derr recently relocated from Gannett Fleming’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., to the firm’s Phoenix, Ariz., location.
As regional transportation director, Derr focuses on further developing the firm’s presence in Gannett Fleming’s 19-state West Region. He leads diverse transportation initiatives and works closely with the firm’s office managers in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and California to grow their transportation-related operations.
With more than 19 years of transportation experience with Gannett Fleming, Derr also serves as the National Highway Practice manager. He explores opportunities for technical innovation, reviews quality assurance procedures, and establishes practice-wide standards. Derr also serves as a principal project manager responsible for preliminary engineering, environmental studies, and the final design of highways and civil works projects.
Derr holds a bachelor of science in civil and environmental engineering from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a registered professional engineer in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maine, and Texas.
Active in professional associations, Derr serves as the vice chair of the Young Executive Leadership Council of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and is a past president of the American Society of Highway Engineers Board. He is an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association.
