Gannett Fleming/UTG Team Selected for Kensico City Tunnel Project

March 10, 2006

(Locust Valley, N.Y.) Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm, has been selected by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) for the Kensico City Tunnel (KCT) Project in Westchester County and the Bronx, N.Y.

Gannett Fleming will perform detailed facility planning for the $2.5 billion project as part of the UTG Team, a tri-venture composed of the URS Corporation, TAMS/Earth Tech, and Gannett Fleming. The UTG Team will provide a facility plan and preliminary design for a third aqueduct to the city, including an alternative analysis, route selection, tunnel size and method of construction, public review, and environmental impact analysis. Bringing international experience to the tri-venture, Eric Cole of Earth Tech will serve as project manager.

The KCT Project is an integral part of the NYCDEP’s planning for the city’s water supply system. It will convey drinking water from the Kensico Reservoir in Westchester County, N.Y., to the Van Cortlandt Valve Chamber in the Bronx, N.Y.

"Working on a project like this is a once in a lifetime experience,” stated project director Robert E. Adamski, P.E., a vice president with Gannett Fleming. “Everyone involved in the tri-venture shares the city staff's excitement for it."

Scheduled for completion in 2009, the project will involve significant public outreach issues associated with the major construction activities in Westchester County, as well as the development of a geotechnical program.
