(South Plainfield, N.J.) Syed A. Ashraf, P.E., was recently appointed to the Rutgers University Civil and Environmental Engineering Department’s Industrial Advisory Board (IAB).
As a member of the IAB, Ashraf provides Rutgers’ personnel with assistance in curriculum development, an evaluation of the department’s impact on work-force training, and an assessment of the program’s contributions to solving engineering problems through research and development.
Ashraf is the geotechnical department manager of Gannett Fleming’s South Plainfield, N.J., office. He oversees geotechnical services provided for highway, dam, water supply, sanitation, and architectural projects throughout New Jersey and New York. Ashraf was selected to join the IAB based on his extensive background in geotechnical engineering.
With more than 21 years of experience, Ashraf’s areas of expertise include planning and directing subsurface investigations; performing sampling and laboratory testing; designing earth retaining structures, pile foundations, and pavements; conducting groundwater and seepage analyses; preparing cost estimates, technical reports, and construction contract provisions; and providing construction inspection services for geotechnical projects.
Ashraf holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and a master of science in geotechnical engineering from Clarkson University. A registered professional engineer in four states, Ashraf is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
