(Harrisburg, Pa.) Roads & Bridges magazine has selected two Gannett Fleming projects for inclusion in its 2006 Top 10 Roads List – U.S. Route 15, Section D52 and the Interstate 83 (I-83) Improvement and Relocation Project. The magazine recognized the international planning, design, and construction management firm’s innovative projects for their unique solutions and ability to overcome various challenges.
Rt. 15, Section D52 |
Rt. 15, Section D52 in Tioga County, Pa., was listed as #2 by the magazine. Gannett Fleming served as the designer of this project, which consisted of locating, designing, and constructing 6.2 miles of a new four-lane limited access highway, an interchange, several bridges, and three mitigation sites.
Designing and constructing a highway along the mountainside of the Tioga River Valley required the excavation and placement of approximately five million cubic yards of earth. The presence of glacial soils, wetlands, and other environmental resources presented challenges throughout the course of the project, from the preliminary design stages through construction.
