(Pittsburgh, Pa.) John W. Kovacs, P.E.,
PMP, was
selected to participate in the American Road and Transportation Builder’s
Association’s (ARTBA’s) Young Executive Development Program
(YEDP). YEDP, designed to develop future leaders of the transportation
construction industry, is held once a year in Washington D.C. and
is only open to individuals of exceptional caliber. Kovacs manages
the Geotechnical Services Group in the Pittsburgh, Pa., office of
Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction
management firm.
Kovacs participated in the three-day intensive program that introduced
him and 23 other chosen attendees to the legislative and regulatory
processes that affect the transportation industry. YEDP members were
briefed on the reauthorization of the federal surface transportation
and airport programs and received an overview of environmental, health,
and safety regulations. They also had the opportunity to meet with
their elected officials on Capitol Hill.
Kovacs holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Carnegie
Mellon University, a master of science in civil and environmental engineering
from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master of business administration
from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.
He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and New Mexico
and a certified project management professional. Kovacs is a member
of the Project Management Institute, Society of American Military Engineers,
American Rock Mechanics Association, International Society of Soil
Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, International Society for Rock
Mechanics, Association of Engineering Geologists, and the Pittsburgh
Geological Society. He is also a director in the American Society of
Civil Engineers (ASCE), Pittsburgh Section.
